My Story

A woman dressed in a flowing, lace and tulle gown with a tiara on her head, holding her pregnant belly, sitting in shallow water at the beach with large rocks in the background, during sunset or sunrise.

Born and raised in Miami, Janel’s work is shaped by creation, care, and a lifelong search for meaning.

Janel is a nurse, artist, and mother with Cuban and Puerto Rican roots. She grew up in Miami, a place where culture, faith, and family are closely connected. Her creativity has always centered on storytelling, shared through hands, rituals, and quiet moments of making.

Her earlier artistic expression was primarily through photography, exploring themes of identity, femininity, and heritage. Although photography remains important to her, she has shifted back to more hands-on, thoughtful art forms.

Now, Janel focuses on pottery and journaling. These practices help her slow down and reconnect with what matters most. Shaping clay is both a grounding ritual and a form of prayer for her, marked by imperfection, humility, and honesty. Journaling helps her reflect on motherhood, faith, healing, and her relationship with God.

Alongside her creative work, Janel is a practicing registered nurse and is currently in graduate school, continuing her commitment to care and service. Nursing has shaped her understanding of presence, humility, and compassion, values that influence her art.
